Hearing Update
This week just gone we went down to CHCH for further tuning of Katya's implants. The tuning has made a big difference. Last time the tuning on the right hand side was too rough for her and she started disliking the processors being put on. With the right side tuned better she is getting back to asking for her processors to be attached. She does not even blink now when they are put on.
We have also observed something very cool. She has started turning to me when I call her by her nick name. This is pretty cool.
Another cool thing that has happened recently is that she has started to localise sounds when she has both processors on. The other day she was fixated on the sound of a cicada. She couldn't see it but she knew it was there.
One more little thing... she is now taking a great interest in her processors and wants to put them in their drier at night and put them together in the mornings. She is also pressing the button to turn them on.
So baby steps but very encouraging.

Problems with my blog
I seem to be having some issues with my home page showing. Hopefully I can fix this soon.
I did my last post with Safari v4 beta. Hopefully it did not kill it.

Finishing off the downstairs
I have finished double Gibbing the downstairs and just need to tidy up the ceiling.
I have built a temporary platform with which to reline the ceiling of the hall/stairs. It is all nailed together so I should not plummet the 3m down to the bottom of the stairs.
The ceiling should be pretty easy. Just have to put some more batons in, tidy the old ones and put the ceiling sheets in.Couple of fiddly bits but not too bad.

Katya's Hearing Update
I haven't blogged about what is happening with Katya for a while.
Claire and her mother went down to CHCH for a further session of tuning last week. All the electrodes are now active. This has been challenging as we had got Katya to a stage where she was asking for us to put her processors on. After the latest tune up, she is reacting very badly to having the processors attached. She quickly gets over it but it is quite annoying that we had got to a very good place and then the latest adjustment seems to have been too much for her. It is certainly a behaviour we want to get through and get back toher likingher processors.
She is developing in her language. There is serious tonal variation and there is inflection in the "words" she is trying to say. None are words as we understand it yet but there is something close to a Hello and a Mum. She is a lot more vocal.
We had our first accident with a processor. One ended up briefly in a puddle. It took to blasts of the drying kit to take the water out of the battery pack. Fortunately the processor itself did not end up in the water.
If you are interested and have an hour and a half to kill, here is a link to a CI operation.

I don't do blood so I'm not watching it. Also I still struggle the idea of doing harm to someone I love for their long term benefit. I know it is right but that does not stop it from being a struggle. Surgeons need to operate on their spouse or kids or other family members to understand this I think.

Gibbing the stairs
Mark has now done all the wiring so I can gib everything. HOWEVER I have now run out of gib. I'm going to order up big this week. But I have got all the insulation in the walls.
I really hate putting up gib. I managed to smash myself over the head at least three times yesterday doing this. I also drove a screw up under my thumb nail and dropped stuff on other parts of my body. Hopefully this is my dose of accidents for the project and that there are none involving live wires or scaffolding.
