Impact Bible Conference 06

Over the last six days I have been at the Impact Bible Conference. It has been challenging and very thought provoking. There were some good speakers. There were some not so good speakers. There were a couple of speakers who broke my preconceptions (which is always very humbling).

The one clear thing I want to take away from the conference is that our preaching must hit one or both of two bases. We must either implor the lost to accept the invitation of Jesus or we must encourage the saved to live lives more like Jesus would (OR BOTH).

I am guilty of not always doing this.

There was an interesting (and very frustrating) presentation on the Emerging Church movement. The presentation was not very good but in looking at some of the web links that the speakers documentation provided, I found the following:

http://www.gracechurch.org/shepnew/2006notes/Emerging,%20Johnson.pdf

This is actually what the speaker's talk was based on but he had extended it too far. The link has a very interesting and academically sound critique of the Emergent Church movement. Well worth a read.

I must say that it was such a joy to be taught by older people who didn't feel they had to prove themselves to anyone. Chris Meuller and Jerry Smith just had a presence about them that was refreshing.
